As I mentioned yesterday, if you live on the East Coast, you've probably heard of South of the Border. There are billboards for hundreds of miles up and down I-95. Billboards that may have been amusing to a child 30 years ago, but now seem a little inappropriate, stupid, or politically incorrect.
Since I was traveling by myself (how often does that happen?), I thought I would drive through, just to see what it was like. After all, thousands of billboards can't be wrong.

Here's the sombrero tower that is visible from the highway. Wait - are the stores even open? Some lights are on, but there is no one there and nothing going on! In fact, it was like an eerie, 60s ghost town.
There were some cars at this store, but that's all the activity I could find. This was late on a Friday afternoon.
How sad! I couldn't get out of there fast enough! I could imagine razing this place and turning it into something really great! Otherwise, it sure is a waste of billboards and the prime highway location.
ETA: I clearly didn't enjoy the full South of the Border experience; however, this gal did.
