As a knitter, I was slightly embarrassed to accept a handknit newborn hat from the hospital volunteer bag. However, as I chose the hat while waiting to snuggle my baby for the first time, I finally understood charity knitting. It was especially sweet to know that a stranger lovingly made this hat that my new baby would wear, since I had not yet made any baby knits for my own child!
Now he has a couple of additional choices in his handknit wardrobe - red and orange!
The pattern is a modified version of Seed Stitch Brim Baby Hat. I just replaced the seed stitch with 2x2 rib.

How adorable! I do so wish I could knit. Kelsey still wears a hat Jimmy's grandmother knit for her when she (Kelsey) was a baby. It's a little (OK, a lot) stretched out now, but she's held onto it all these years.
He is certainly stylin' in his colorful hats! I can't wait to meet him in person!
My friend Patty (who taught me how to knit my very first stitch) is a knitter for newborns. So sweet to see what might be one of her creations on your precious little one's head.
He is a cutie!! I still have the hats the kids got in the hospital after being born. They are a true keepsake.
Speaking of knitting...I recently thought of you while I was a craft show in Minnesota. I will have to show you what I bought. It is a felted flower pin. The lady had made several in all different colors. I thought of you when I saw them. You could easily make them (in all your spare time!).
Happy New Year.
Amy what a doll baby, so sweet. TaraJ
