What's in the Box Wednesday

Some of what you read today may be considered oversharing. Please don't think poorly of me.

Isn't it nice when things go the best possible way? I missed a prime parking spot when we went downtown to pick up our CSA box today, so I hustled around the block to come back for it. As I waited at the light across the street, I watched a car slow down and claim it. I commented (maybe to myself, maybe to Ethan) that this person didn't even deserve the spot (as if you have to earn the right to or be worthy of a great spot - ha!) as they were headed into the curbside spot head first. I rolled up behind her and waited. She gave up really quickly after assessing her parallel parking acumen. Yeah! The spot was all mine! Of course, after pausing and signaling and moving forward, then preparing to reverse into the spot, a dude pulls up right behind me, preventing me from getting into my spot momentarily. Why am I the only person who knows basic driving principles sometimes? Ethan thinks I'm a great driver, too!

No, the giant acorn is not about to fall on Ethan.

I will admit right here that Mama Bear emerged today and spoke sternly to a mini-Mean Girl at the acorn. This little girl was trying to boss Ethan around and tell him that there was no room for him to stand there because SHE was standing there with her peeps. The nerve! First, I responded with polite Mommy diplomacy (as I've observed is the socially acceptable response): "Oh, there's plenty of room for everyone here." Then, after I took his picture, she started barking orders at him again - and the mother either didn't hear her OR chose to ignore it OR didn't think it was a problem. I am not ashamed to say that I shut her down (which is probably the socially unacceptable response). I felt like I did her a service by calling her on her bossiness. She'll thank me later. I'm sure of it.

This makes me dread the inevitable times that someone will hurt Ethan's feelings. How will I react? How do I prepare myself for this? How can I avoid this for as long as possible?
