Do you love them madly?

Here's the dilemma. Our outdoor dining area is adjacent to the dog section of the yard. Also, as the sun sets, anyone facing the sun (at the table or inside - see bottom picture) is nearly blinded. In the future, there will be a house on the lot next door.

We found these awesome old wood doors at ReStore one day on a *free* cart in front of the store and decided to try hanging them in the patio area.

This one was meant to draw attention away from the underside of the deck stairs.

The other two are intended to filter the sun. We just need to rework the spacing.

I need your help! Please tell me how to make this look better! Right now, I think it just looks a little strange.

What a clever idea and good use of doors-
I'm not sure what you could add to it- but maybe some art work on the doors- or a set of three simple square wreaths hanging down the center of each door.
Just a couple thoughts- great idea.

Oh Amy...I love them!! Just up my ally. I like the idea from Teresa (comment above) about the wreath. Or your could hang black and white pictures of the kids. You know how much I love pics and especially black and white.
Oh, love the post about The Pits. That Randy is a funny guy!
Hope to see you tomorrow.

Hi there! I just came over from Kari and Kijsa. I love the idea of hanging the old doors. I'm all about using items for something other than their intended purpose, especially free stuff!

As for blending them in, my suggestion would be to paint them a color similar to your rocks and stencil on natural art. Something like moss, tree branches, etc. I think that would make it blend with your patio and the nature beyond. I hope you find something you like!

I am SO not good at the spatial stuff, especially without seeing it in person...but I think it's a really cool idea! Show us what it looks like when you finish, and I wish I was more help!

I agree with Songbirdtiff. To paint them a more neutral color, and then maybe add a bamboo rollup shade between the two, to help with the shade part.

I also would suggest adding a piece of long iron work to the door (you can find inexpensive and not so heavy ones at places like Kirklands).

Another possibility, would be to take the one hanging in front of the stairs, paint it a neutral color and turn it horizontally on the wall opposite of the other two, for more balance.
Stairs are stairs, so you don't have to hide them. ;)

How about adding some dangling grapevine and twinkling lites to soften the edges of the doors?

I love your patio
