Debbie Downer, MD

In an epic scheduling fail (it's certainly no back-to-school massage/mani/pedi a la Carpool Queen), I celebrated the first day of preschool by going to the doctor's office for my checkup and glucose tolerance test. I've heard friends talk about practices with multiple obstetricians. They have favorites and not-so-favorites. I've already quizzed my favorite on her on-call schedule around my due date.

After the 3 hour fast and dropping off the children, I arrived at the doctor's office giddy because I was so early! Then I saw the poster on the door reminding patients of the recent office relocation.

After regrouping and determining that the parking and waiting room situation at the new location were not an enhancement, I was quickly called in for my appointment. I chugged the orange Gatorade glucose tolerance drink and carried my timer back to the waiting area.

The nurse called me and said Dr. Debbie Downer would see me shortly. She didn't say a word about my weight until I asked her if I was doing ok. After a lengthy, stern warning about weight gain during pregnancy and vague speculation about a cultural difference causing doctors to avoid this subject with their patients (What cultural difference? Still can't figure this out.), she hustled me out of the exam room.
The rest of the morning was uneventful, as I pouted about my less than encouraging talk with Debbie.
Then I heard this on the radio
and all was right with the world again.

It's a sign. I'm glad you took it as such.

You sound like me. Just when I think I'm on top of the schedule, I do something like that.

Congrats on having a baby!

I take Baby Got Back as a compliment! Not only is it my ringtone, but that was the first song that my two boys new every word to! Looooove it! Congratulations and don't let Debbie get you down!

The title of your post made me laugh. Just think ... by December, it won't matter. :)
