We discovered a very small leak months after we moved into the house. The subfloor directly under the master shower, which is the ceiling in the unfinished part of the basement, was damp and stained. All I could think about was the mess and possible dispute between the plumber and tile contractor over the responsibility for the repair.
I know you're thinking, "Well, your builder should figure that out." Randy acted as our GC, and I became the de facto on-site superintendent, which ought to qualify as a resume addition, since it was nearly a full-time job. [By the way, if anyone tells you that you can save a bundle by building a home yourself, run away!]
So finally, we moved forward with the repair. Here's what it looked like originally. The children loved watching the men work, and Ethan even went to his tool bench to get tools to help.
I, on the other hand, cringed every time they hammered, and could hardly stand to look at my beautiful tile being torn up. They found the source of the leak, a small puncture in the shower pan liner (the gray circle), and put it all back together.
Whew! Good as new. The dreaded tile repair is complete!
